Rehda Hopes For Year-end Launch Of Revised National Housing Policy

Last update: 04/07/2017

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama)--The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) hopes the government will launch the revised National Housing Policy, which, among other things, would emphasise on the price for the affordable houses, by year-end.

Rehda patron and former President, Datuk Ng Seing Liong, said the association was currently working with the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government to standardise the prices for affordable houses in the country.

We are going from state to state to understand the requirements and factors which determine the price for the affordable houses, he told a press conference after the soft launch of the Affordable Housing Carnival-Malaysia Property Expo (KPMM-MAPEX), which starts on Aug 11, 2017.

Ng said the prices for affordable houses would differ in each state, depending on the land price and cost of development.

We also need to look at the return of investment in each state and the depreciation of the currency, as there are developers who purchase their building materials from abroad, he said.

Last year, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Tan Sri Noh Omar, was reported as saying his ministry would review the National Housing Policy, and look into ways that would enable the government to control the prices of homes to allow people from the low- and middle-income bracket to own properties.
