PKNS To Continue Help Rakyat In Selangor To Own Homes - Sultan Of Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor Sultan, Sharafuddin Idris Shah today called on the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to continue to build quality affordable homes for the middle and low income groups.
He said as a state-run body which looked after the interests of the Malays, PKNS should ensure that the affordable houses built had at least three bedrooms, in addition to being maintained well at all times.
This, he said, was in line with the original goal of the establishment of PKNS on August 1, 1964 by the eighth Selangor Menteri Besar, the late Datuk Harun Idris, to help the Malay community to own comfortable homes in the state.
"Looking back at the history of the formation of PKNS, the Malay community at the time was not doing well, they had no home or land to live in peacefully. In addition, there was an influx of people coming from outside the state of Selangor.
"At that time, the Malays only settled in squatter houses that were unsuitable, unsafe and unmanaged. However, PKNS built low-cost houses, provided land lots to those who qualified and opened new planned settlements as well as arranged for loans with low and affordable installments," he said when opening the new PKNS headquarters, here today.
The Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah were also present at the event.
Among other guests were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahya.
The new one-hectare PKNS Headquarters in Section 14, here, is an eco-friendly building featuring smart offices equipped with high-tech structures and modern facilities.
This includes an auditorium, multi-purpose hall, library, gymnasium and Taska Mutiara PKNS.
The inauguration of the city's newest iconic building by Sultan Sharafuddin today was held in conjunction with the 53rd anniversary of the corporation.
