TAPAH, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 596 residential units under the Perak Perwira Special Housing  Programme (PKPPNP) will be built in Batang Padang district soon.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the construction of homes on a 20.2 hectare site is meant for police and military personnel and former members of security forces.

"The state government through the Perak Housing and Real Estate Board will build affordable housing to meet the needs of these groups based on their financial capabilities.

""We know that certain parties have criticised this housing project but we are always aware of the plight of members of security forces and help them with sincerity," he told reporters after the ground breaking ceremony for PKPPNP Mukim Batang Padang in Temoh, here today.

The PKPPNP project would also be built in Segari, Lumut and Seri Iskandar, Manjung, involving 304 units and 1,039 units of houses respectively.

The three-bedroom house measuring 1,000 square feet is priced at as low as from RM145,000 to RM221,000 after being given government subsidies.
