Kedah Government To Work On Fulfilling People's Housing Needs

Last update: 15/11/2017

ALOR SETAR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Government will continue to work on meeting the people's housing needs by ensuring that at least one People's Housing Project (PPR) is developed in each of the 36 state constituencies in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said this was because the government was aware of the growing need for housing among people in the state.

"The government understands that there is a growing need for houses not only in the state but also nationwide...as such in terms of housing development, both the federal and state governments are working together to ensure the housing needs of the people are met.

"It is the state government's aspiration that every state constituency has at least 500 to 600 PPR houses in the future," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Nor Saidi Nanyan (BN-Kuah) during the question-and-answer session in the state assembly here today.

Nor Saidi wanted to know if the state government had conducted studies or taken action on the growing need for housing provision in helping the people own their own houses.

Ahmad Bashah stressed that local residents living in the state constituencies would be given priority in their application for PPR houses as they were the the most eligible group.

In another development, Kedah Housing, Local Government, Water Supply, Water Resources  and Energy Committee chairman Badrol Hisham Hashim said the state government was now focusing on increasing affordable housing for those earning RM2,000 and below a month.

He said this in reply to a supplementary question from Mohd Azam Abd Samat (PAS-Sungai Limau).
