Sime Darby Property To Build Over 1,000 Affordable Houses

SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Sime Darby Property Bhd targets to build more than 1,000 units of affordable houses in several locations especially in the Klang Valley beginning this year, to enable urbanites own their own homes.


Group Managing Director, Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin said the affordable houses would be priced from RM200,000 to RM800,000 based on their locations and would consist of various property types including double-storey houses.


In support of affordable housing, he said the company would build some 1,000 units of such houses with built-ups from 900 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft and priced from RM200,000 to RM270,000 in the middle of this year, in several locations such as City of Elmina (COE) and Putra Heights.


"Besides focusing on affordable housing, we will also build about 600 units of houses priced from RM500,000 to RM800,000 according to the locations.


"For example, at the end of this week, we are launching a two-storey semi-detached development in Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang with prices starting from RM600,000 to RM700,000," he told reporters after the launch of the company's 2050 National Transformation (TN50) Aspiration by Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaludin here, today.


Also present at the event were former Prime Minister and Adviser to the Board of Trustees, Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Sime Darby Property Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.


Elaborating further, Amrin said the company raked in higher property sales of between 65 per cent and 88 per cent following the recovery of a few related sectors last year.


Because of this, Sime Darby Property continues to provide the guarantee that its property development products have their own quality and the prices offered are suitable for the products.


The launch of Sime Darby Property TN50 Aspiration through the COE sustainable development is the developer's first initiative to support the government's vision to be among the top 20 countries in the world in economic development, social well-being and innovation.


Sime Darby Property is the third private entity to support the TN50 Aspiration which was mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.


COE is a 2,023.42-hectare themed township development by Sime Darby Property with an estimated gross development value of RM27 billion, which include Denai Alam, Bukit Subang, Elmina East and Elmina West townships.
