RUMAWIP: Lack Of Understanding Led To Unfulfilled Indian Quota

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- A lack of understanding of procedures to apply for the Federal Territory Affordable Homes (RUMAWIP) is among the causes of the 10 per cent quota reserved for Indians remaining unfulfilled, says MIC Youth chief, Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran.


He said the findings were obtained through a study conducted by the party and based on complaints lodged by Indian youths over the last few years.


"As such, the Federal Territories Ministry should intensify efforts to promote RUMAWIP 
among the Indian community and facilitate the application process.


"The Federal Territory MIC itself had submitted a list of 20 RUMAWIP applicants but has still not received any feedback,"he said in a statement here today.


Sivarraajh, who is also Cameron Highlands Parliamentary Constituency coordinator, refuted claims that Indian youths were not interested in staying in the capital which was said to have led to the quota still not fulfilled.


"Most of them who live in the Federal Territory are able and willing to buy the house but they are not sure about the procedures,"he said.


It was reported that Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said the Indian community should grab the opportunity to buy houses under the RUMAWIP as many had not taken up the 10 per cent quota reserved for them.
