KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The federal and state government housing agencies will hold mega home expositions (expos) nationwide beginning March, offering over 100,000 affordable houses for sale.

PR1MA Corp Malaysia (PR1MA) Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias, said the 'Towards A Million Dreams, Experience a Prosperous Lifestyle' expos aimed to increase house ownership among Malaysians from all income levels, especially the lower income and middle income groups.

"The target audience are middle-income earners who live in the urban and suburban areas, with a household income of between RM2,500 and RM15,000 a month," he told a press conference here today.

He said the expos were a joint initiative by the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, the National Housing Department, PR1MA, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd, 1Malaysia Housing Projects for Civil Servants as well as state government agencies.

The expo would kick-off in Perak from March 1-5, followed Sabah on March 15 and Kuala Lumpur from March 24-April 1, he said.

In terms of projected sales, Abdul Mutalib said, there was no specific target, but was optimistic on the expos' performances as there was a healthy and tremendous demand for affordable housing.

"There are 1.5 million online registrations for PR1MA nationwide. We also noticed that the private sector has started to focus on affordable housing, indicating that the government's programmes in various agencies have had an impact," said Abdul Mutalib.

He said this was in line with the National Housing Policy's objective to provide adequate, comfortable and affordable housing for the people nationwide, as outlined under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

"Affordable housing is a high priority for the government, and as such, the federal and state agencies are collaborating to support the government's aspiration and commitment to deliver affordable houses nationwide.

"This expos serve as a platform for the rakyat to obtain the relevant information on the various types of homes which suit their lifestyles and financial commitments, and there will also be representatives from financial institutions and relevant agencies to assist them with their queries and facilitate their house-ownership," he said.

Abdul Mutalib said the Perak Housing and Real Estate Board would also be participating in the expo in Perak, adding that the Perak expo would be offering close to 40,000 houses for sale in the state.

The nationwide expos would also see participation from strategic partners such as the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency, National Higher Education Fund Corp and financial institutions such as Malayan Banking Bhd, CIMB Bank Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd and AmBank (M) Bhd to help potential home-buyers check their credit score and apply for loans.

PR1MA was set up under the 2012 PR1MA Act. It is the only authorised party entrusted to develop, manage and maintain PR1MA housing communities to provide homeowners with comfortable and quality living in a harmonious community.
