Govt to consider allowing resale of affordable houses to first-time buyers

Last update: 31/10/2018

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- The government will look into the proposal for the resale of affordable houses to be open to only those who are purchasing a house for the first time, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Senator Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad said even though the sub-sale of houses was not subject to the Housing Developers (Control and Licensing) Act 1966  (Act 118) which was under the ministry’s purview, the proposal was indeed good and will be considered by the government.

“This is one of our objectives to ensure that those who have yet to own a house will be given a priority. This is because some of them have waited for years for the opportunity, while some people, for reasons that we cannot understand, had somehow managed to own not one, but several units of affordable and low-cost houses,” he said when winding-up the Half Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan for his ministry today.

He said the proposal by Chan Ming Kai (PH-Alor Setar) should be considered to ensure that affordable houses were only sold to deserving quarters.
