Last update: 03/01/2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- Building quality houses with conducive surroundings for the poor and low income earners, will continue to be the main priority of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad Baharuddin Shah said PH was targeting to construct 500,000 housing units in the next five years for the group.

"Social impact assessment will be conducted before a housing project is implemented to ensure quality of the houses and that the residential areas are safe and conducive.

"We have to carry out a detailed project plan to take care of the people’s interests.

“Affordable land will be acquired and open tender system will be used for construction projects so that house prices are regulated,” he said in his New Year’s message today.

He said favouritism would no longer be practised as fair distribution would implemented according to data gathered on the actual needs of the people and their families.

"It is hoped that the new year will bring brighter prospects and pave the way for a more prosperous nation in the creation of a New Malaysia. May we achieve all that we hope for, Insya Allah. Happy New Year," he said.
