Housing projects with Islamic concept to be developed in Perak

Last update: 13/02/2019

TAIPING, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The Perak Islamic Economy Development Corporation will be developing idle pieces of land owned by the State Islamic Religious and Malay Custom Council (Maipk) with projects for affordable housing based on the Islamic concept.

Its chief executive officer, Abd Rahman Abdullah Thani said among the areas identified for the projects to be developed between 2020 and 2021, were Kampar, Alor Pongsu and Chemor.

He said the implementation of these projects based on the Islamic concept was to meet the shariah requirements and to create awareness among buyers about wakaf (endowment) land.

"For each piece of wakaf land to be developed, we will be applying the Islamic concept in the interior design such as separate toilets and bathrooms to ensure sanctity and cleanliness.

"The toilets should also not be facing the kibla (direction of the Kaaba in Makkah) in order to fulfil the Islamic concept," he said at a news conference in conjunction with the ground-breaking ceremony for a terrace house development project, here, today.

Abd Rahman said the prices offered for houses in all these projects would not exceed RM250,000 per unit in efforts to uplift and sustain the economy of Muslims in the state.

On today’s ground-breaking ceremony, he said the project on a 0.19 hectare piece of land comprised 10 units of affordable double-storey terrace houses based on the Islamic design concept. It is expected to be completed in 2020.
