LPM, Home Spectrum to build affordable houses in Melaka Pindah

Last update: 28/08/2019

MELAKA, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- The state government through the Melaka Housing Board (LPM) with the cooperation of housing developer, Home Spectrum Sdn Bhd (HSSB), will develop affordable housing under the Affordable Housing Scheme (RMM) in Melaka Pindah here in two years.

Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari said the development, spanning 20 hectares of land, included the construction of low-medium cost housing component or “Rumah Harapan”, affordable terrace houses (RMM) and mixed housing components.

"Low-medium cost housing will take up 10 per cent of the development, comprising 33 units priced at not more than RM100,000 per unit, and RMM houses constitute another 20 per cent or 60 units priced at not more than RM180,000 each.

"The balance of 70 per cent of the development will comprise 335 units of mixed housing such as terrace houses (56 units), shop lots and offices (34 units), semi-detached houses (50 units), cluster houses (178 units) and bungalows (17 units)," he said.

He said this to reporters after witnessing the signing of a joint-venture agreement between LPM and HSSB at Seri Negeri Complex, Ayer Keroh, here today.

LPM was represented by its executive director Salleh Md Dom while HSSB was represented by its directors Yeow Ho Thai and Yeow Ho Lam.

The value of the project was not disclosed.

Adly said the state government was focusing on building affordable houses and Rumah Harapan as the two housing components are seen as helping the people as well as the developers.

He said such an agreement would give confidence to developers that a housing model like this would give profits, and subsequently help the state government in providing housing that is affordable to the people.

"In fact, most of the unsold houses comprise housing lots that are highly priced, at more than RM500,000.

"I believe this approach being introduced is the best and there are developers who want to develop such projects...and in the end will help the people to own their own houses," he said.
