Last update: 28/10/2019

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 28 – The Penang government has received 95,125 complaints on the increase of the property assessment rate.

State Housing, Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said that Penangites were given until Oct 14 to request for appeal if they were unsatisfied with the hike of the housing assessment rate.

“The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have collected 54,459 and 40,666 objections respectively,” he said in a press conference here today.

He also said the first hearing session would be held on both the island and mainland between 9am and 12 noon tomorrow and it would continue until March next year.

According to him, some 60 objections received by MBPP would be processed in the Penang Island City Hall whereas MBSP would process 289 appeals at the Bertam Sports Complex.

“(Over time) MBPP will have three hearing committees in three different locations on the island for the hearing session, whereas MBSP will have six hearing committees in four locations on the mainland,” he said.

He said property owners who have submitted their appeal will receive a notice for their hearing session.
