REPORT: Various Initiatives Implemented By Government To Enable Rakyat To Own Houses

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The government has implemented various initiatives to enable the Rakyat to own affordable houses including 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) programme, the First House Deposit Financing Scheme (MyDeposit), the 1Malaysia People-Friendly Houses (RMR1M) and the People's Housing Programme (PPR).

According to the Economic Report 2016/17 released by the Finance Ministry, as at end-August 2016, a total of 96,254 units of PR1MA houses were under construction and 10,000 units were expected to be completed.

Meanwhile, MyDeposit that was launched last April to provide up to 10 percent or a maximum of RM30,000 whichever is lower for down payment of below RM500,000 houses, has benefitted 1,624 buyers as at end-August 2016.

A total of 36,316 RMR1M's houses were completed since 2002, and as at end-August 2016 a total of 1,626 houses were under construction, mostly in Johor (325), Terengganu (299), Perak (209) and Kedah (132).

Furthermore, squatters' resettlement and house ownership issues among low-income earners were always the government's focus through various initiatives including PPR that started in 2002.



In 2016 the government aims to build 13,130 apartment units and 5,542 units of terrace houses for squatters and low-income households with a monthly income of less than RM2,500.



Since 2002, a total of 80,252 houses were completed and as at end-August 2016; 8,928 unit apartments and 2,452 units of terrace houses are under construction; while 4,202 unit apartments and 3,090 units of terrace houses are in the planning stage.

From 2009 to end-August 2016, the government had resolved 182 or 80 percent of the total abandoned housing projects which benefitted 32,641 buyers; while 20 projects involving 4,610 buyers are in various stages of construction and another two projects are being revived with an allocation of RM20 million.

Meanwhile, as at end-August 2016, a total of RM45 million was utilised under the 1Malaysia Maintenance Fund (TP1M) to finance 88 projects benefitting strata residents.



The initiative to provide a conducive and comfortable living environment for residents in low-and medium-cost houses has also refurbished 62 strata residential areas with a total cost of RM21.6 million.

The report also stated that the government targets to build 100,000 units of 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) by 2018 with prices ranging between RM90,000 and RM300,000.



As at end-August 2016, a total of 18,162 units of PPA1M houses were under construction; 499 unit obtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance; 17,665 units granted the Development Order approval; and 6,045 units have obtained the Building Plan Approval.
