BUDGET: Housing Projects Under 2017 Budget Will Benefit Youths

Last update: 21/10/2016

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The development of affordable housing projects, as announced under the 2017 Budget, will benefit Malaysians, particularly young people, says Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Speaking to reporters after the tabling of the 2017 Budget here today, he said several of these projects, including the development of 10,000 studio apartments in urban areas, would be rented out to fresh graduates.

"To be known as 'Youth Transit Studio Apartment Projects', it will comprise one- and two-room apartment units.

"These units will be rented out to the young who just started working, at a lower rental rate compared with the market rate," said Noh, adding that the tenants can only rent the unit for a maximum of five years.

He said the government would also develop affordable housing projects at strategic locations in the Klang Valley and on Federal government-owned land in other states.

"We will be working together with government-linked developers," said Noh.

Priced between RM120,000 and RM200,000 per unit, all projects would commence next year, he added.
